| Help the Hospices is the national charity for the hospice movement and is committed to supporting the wonderful work of hospices across the UK and, increasingly, overseas. Hospice care is based on a simple idea - that the person is more than the illness. Each of us - sick or well - has unique physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. Hospices try to respond to these needs in ways which place the highest value on respect, choice and empowerment. Hospices inspire tremendous support and sympathy from the communities they serve. They are warm and welcoming places with an emphasis on helping patients to enjoy the best quality of life. Most people have been touched by the wonderful care hospices offer, whether through personal experience, or those of a friend, relative or colleague. Help the Hospices supports hospices in their vital work on the frontline of caring for people who face the end of life and caring for those who love them. The support we give takes many forms including: - Training - we fund the special training of hospice staff, especially doctors and nurses to - help them develop their skills in caring for patients and their families. - Education - we fund hospices to help the spread the skills and philosophy of hospice care - to others in the community caring for the terminally ill. - Grants - we help to fund the development of new services in hospices. - We offer a wide range of support, advice and information services for hospices and their - staff, Trustees and volunteers. - We organise and fund national fundraising events and activities, which help raise millions - of pounds to support hospice care. We also give voice to the interests, views and concerns of nearly 200 local charities who provide the majority of hospice care across the UK. We investigate issues, publish reports and briefings and advocate the cause of independent voluntary hospice care in Westminster, Whitehall and in the media. "If you took all the love and companionship given by the nurses and staff here, put it in a light bulb under the Millennium Dom, you would see it in Sydney". David, a hospice Day Care patient. We are delighted to be an official charity partner in the Wedding Angels project and fully support Raising Angels Limited in this exciting new fundraising initiative. We very much look forward to working with them to raise much needed funds and awareness for Help the Hospices in the years to come.
